Lets see if we can guess the principles in each drawing. There may be more than one.

Criteria A" Elements of Art/ Principles of Design Dictionary:

You will use your small notebook to create a dictionary.
On each page of the dictionary, you will define two terms by using words and pictures and cut paper or other materials
Page 1: Title: Elements of art and Principles of Design Dictionary - Make it look whimsical
Page 2: Line: Show and label all kinds of line
Page 3: Shape: Organic and Geometric
Page 4: Space: Negative and Positive. Space: Foreground backgroud
Page 5: Texture: Simulated, Real
Page 6: Color: Primaries, secondary, Tertiary

Painting value and learning brush techniques: Crit B Formative  2 classes

Using 2b, 4b, 6b pencils to practice shading and value: Crit B Formative  2 classes

Criteria A  Summative :  Creating and Artwork Incorporating the Elements of ART plus focal point and unity (6 CLASSES)
You will create a painting that uses  elements of art plus focal point.
Here the process of how you will create your artwork.

1. Before starting, choose an image that you want to be your focal point
2. Tape around the outside of your paper with masking tape making very straight lines

Drawing margin with ruler Start with strong focal point
Adding geometric shapes
Adding organic shapes that will show movement and create unity More geometric shapes on top
starting to paint focal point with values of red
adding primary and secondary colors
Adding texture and contrast - See small circles-
Adding lines in white
Final Image with 3D elements added for Form

Criteria B: Working in Clay
We will be learning to make 3 different techniques in clay"
pinch pot
coil pot
slab

After learning each of these techniques you will create an animal, a box, a coil vessel using as many elements of art as you can incorporate

FINAL CLAY PIECE: Making whimsical houses out of clay. Using the methods that we have leaerned in class you will design and create your own clay house.

Criteria C  = Building a  Whimsical  House out of Clay
For this task you will design a house
Your house will not look a house that any of us have ever lived in. You are creating a piece of art
Look at the artwork from last semester students as inspiration Using graph paper that I will give you,  draw your house.
Think about:
  • the height
  • The width
  • The roof . Tall triangle Short triangle. Flat. One sided
  • the windows - circles, squares, rectangles. Cut out our stuck on. Where will they go?
  • The doors - long, short, wide, square. Cut out or stuck on
  • The goal is for your house to be creative but  simple. You will have 3 classes to build it

Steps to making your house.
First: Draw a simple sketch of your house in your journal.
Then:

  1. Using graph paper  and a ruler draw the base of  your house using a ruler. It should not be more than 20 cm tall and 11 cm wide. Not shorter than 14 cm
  2. Draw the roof. You can make it look any way that you like as long as the total height of your house is not more than 20 cm
  3. Make 4 copies of the base on graph paper
  4. Make 4 copies of the roof - triangles. Think
  5. Draw the windows and doors on all of the bases  Any shape you want. Do you want to cut them out or stick them on? You can do both
  6. You can write on your drawing.
  7. Start to make your piece by cutting out  your shapes.- all the slabs -4 sides and 4 roofs
  8. Cut out and windows and doors before you put your piece together
  9. Using the slab method, put together the base. Use scratching and slip and coil
  10. Put together the triangles of the roof or whatever style roof you want to make.
  11. Attach the roof to the base.
  12. Add details - window sills, carving, texture - be creative.
